Joshua's Biography

Born in Singapore, Joshua started playing tennis at the age of 4; the start of a long and successful tennis career to come. He found much success nationally and internationally. On the Asian scene, Joshua finished his 14 & Under career ranked Top 30 in Asia. On the World ITF Junior Tour, he obtained a high ranking of #400 in the world. In his pursuit, he was always consistently ranked Top 2 in Singapore and Malaysia winning a national junior championship in Malaysia along the way. Furthermore, he has trained and travelled across the world to play in various ITF events, playing amongst and against current professionals like Thanasi Kokkinakis, Chung Hyeon, and others. He also represented Singapore in the 14 & Under World Juniors, Junior Davis Cup, South East Asian games and Davis Cup. After his junior career, Joshua served 2 years of mandatory military service while coaching some of the best Juniors in Singapore under the Tennis Inc Academy and then continued his tennis journey in college.

Joshua played 2 years of collegiate tennis at the Sonoma State University, where he had some success beating a couple of Division 1 colleges. Unfortunately his Sophomore season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Shortly after, he transferred to the University of Hawaii at Hilo to play 3 years of collegiate tennis. During his stay at UH Hilo, the team was ranked #4 in the nation, won the PacWest Championships, NCAA West Region Championships, and made the semi-finals at the NCAA National Championships. Joshua maintained a winning singles record in every season he participated in, and was selected as the Pepsi Athlete of the Week and PacWest Player of the Week in 2021. Joshua graduated from UH Hilo with a degree in Communications and Political Science.

During his stay in Hilo, Joshua picked up coaching under the guidance of coach Randy Kunimoto. Joshua gained valuable experience here learning not only the ways of coaching, but also the values that hold important in Hawaii. Joshua moved to Oahu to coach for the USTA under an OPT visa, and was recently hired by the Tennis Keiki o Hawai'i to help them with coaching and communications. He hopes to make a difference through the guidance of the corporation and through the support of the community.
