Luke's Biography

Luke graduated from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa where he studied Economics and Japanese. Prior to that, he played collegiate tennis at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, where the team achieved a national ranking of #4, won the PacWest Championships and the NCAA West Region Championships, and reached the semi-finals of the NCAA National Championships. As a junior player, Luke was ranked as high as #2 in Hawai'i and competed in national tournaments such as the Boys 16s & 18s National Championships in Kalamazoo. He also trained internationally at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain and the Riviera Zushi Marina Tennis School in Japan.

Luke began his coaching journey with Coach Randy Kunimoto in Hilo, where he learned the fundamentals of tennis coaching and embraced Coach Randy’s philosophies. Coach Randy instilled in him the belief that tennis is more than just a sport—it’s a lifelong journey of personal development and a tool for giving back. He further developed his coaching skills on Oahu with Coach Caden Yamamoto. Luke’s coaching approach emphasizes simple yet creative methods of learning. His passion for economics, chess, Japanese culture, piano, and lifelong learning enriches his coaching philosophy.

In his role at Tennis Keiki o Hawai‘i, Luke aspires to help build a community that inspires excellence across the state.
